21st century Ireland has seen a renewed sense of enthusiasm for choral music. With increased international success and activity, Irish choirs are more and more gaining attention on the international stage and these positive developments do not go unnoticed.
At present, the Association of Irish Choirs is bidding for Dublin, Ireland to be the host of Europa Cantat Festival 2021. Taking place every three years, Europa Cantat is a hugely significant event in the European and indeed the world choral diary. Should it be successful, the event draws over 5,000 singers, conductors, composers and others from right across Europe to the host city.
Dublin has already been successfully shortlisted, and on September the 11th the city will receive a site visit from delegates representing the European Choral Association.
NEW DUBLIN VOICES have been invited by the AOIC to showcase the potential of one our finest venues, Christ Church Cathedral. On September the 11th at 8pm, we will be performing a selection of Irish and international repertoire, including the Irish premier of Seán Doherty‘s Snow Dance for the Dead, as well as Péter Louis van Dijk’s Psalmus, both of which New Dublin Voices gave the world premiers at the World Symposium on Choral Music in Barcelona. In what is a FREE event, we would love to see as many of you as possible! Click here for the event page.
We are only too happy to support the AOIC with this bid, and can only imagine what a great endorsement for the Irish choral scene a successful bid would be.
ALSO! We highly recommend attending Europa Cantat XX which is taking place in Talinn, Estonia next year, 2018. Full of wonderful performances, masterclasses, workshops and much more, it will be a fantastic week.
